Phone Call Caused a Stroke?

After talking on the phone for an hour with the receiver tucked between his head and shoulder, a French psychiatrist became temporarily blind in one eye and could barely speak - classic signs of a mini-stroke. Physicians believe that this prolonged position disturbed the vertebral artery that supplies blood to his brain. It is only one case, but the rest of us can learn from it. If you cradle a receiver, be sure to switch sides or transfer it to your hand from time to time. Better yet, try a headset.

Chiropractors have known the delicate relationship between one's spine and the internal functions of the body for a long time. The spine has three basic functions:

  1. To provide postural support:
The bones of the spine (vertebrae) are stacked on top of each other, like building blocks providing attachment to, and structural support for the limbs of the body.
  2. To allow movement:
The "backbone" is divided into 24 segments. The individual vertebra are linked together by Joints (and discs) that provide movement in all six ranges of motion. Each vertebral segment is designed to move a small amount over the one below it, allowing the spine to bend and twist through a full range of motion.
  3. To protect the delicate nerve tissue:
The brain and spinal cord transmit electrical impulses to all tissues in the body. So important is this communication network, the central nervous system is the only system in the body that is totally encased in bone. These well-protected nerves control every one of the body's functions, without exception.

Misalignment of the vertebra of the spine alters nerve function, which may affect the flow of blood to any tissue and organ in the body, including the brain. Sustained postures while on the telephone, while over the computer, or while sleeping can cause misalignment of the spine and serious neurological disturbance.

It is unusual for nerve interference to result in the immediate onset of symptoms, but it is a well-known fact that a disruption in nerve transmission will affect the brain's ability to communicate to the cells and tissues of the body.

Doctors of chiropractic have the knowledge and skill to detect the presence of nerve interference before the onset of serious health problems. Have your loved ones checked by a chiropractor in order to insure their good health.
