Sears, Roebuck and Co.

Don has consulted with Sears since 1997 and created the first corporate Intranet page for them, and so he's affectionately known as the Grandfather of their intranet.

While he designed some of the thousands of internal pages, his contribution lies more with databases and backend program development and with training and consulting with many departments within the retail giant. We estimate 400-500 employees learned basic web page design and content management from him. Areas where Don provided expertise include

Intranet pages by definition are internal to the company and so cannot be linked here, but Don made another contribution that is accessible.

Sears Retirees Site

Don designed and coded the Sears Retiree site. The interface mimics a paper tab system, easily navigable, and it uses a larger type size, in appreciation the age of its audience. Sears staff has just recently changed the site, so the pages designed by Gnu Media are no longer accessible.

Translation Clearinghouse Site

As a national retailer, Sears has many Hispanic employees and customers. Much of their Human Resources and Marketing materials need to be translated into Spanish, and to keep that function running smoothly, Gnu Media created a translation clearinghouse website. Clients send their original English documents to the site and request a translation. The translation group receives the request, does the work, and posts the translated documents for retrieval. This process has increased productivity while bringing the whole process under control.

This site is proprietary to Sears and cannot be accessed by the general public.
